PS: I guess they stuck with Ed McMahon because he was Jerry's "Good luck charm" from 1968 onwards - why Johnny couldn't make the move to Vegas with them puzzles me, but maybe he was busy with work or it was Lewis' decision.

Hi James! Yep, if I remember correctly, Johnny worked the telethon when it was local in New York, and the the first years that the MDA show was national. I can only conjecture about Johnny's geography and availability vs. McMahon being a bigger name as to why the switch. I have spoken with Artie Forrest for the book, and he has been very generous with his recollections about Johnny. While he would likely know the answer to your question, I don't think it's important to the overall story.

Thanks for the suggestion. While pretty unlikely, I MAY have missed some aspect of Johnny's life and career, so the reminders here are helpful.

When I was a rock radio DJ, I used to play "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners.  I always wonder how Eileen felt about that.
