TPIR Skimping on Music Cues Now?
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:38:16 AM »
(Forgive me in advance for not knowing the name of the specific music cue in question).

I caught the Monday 3/1/10 ep of TPIR, and noticed the same prize description music cue being used for LINE Em Up and (IIRC) Double Prices which were within 2 pricing games of each other.

Was this just coincidence, or is Fremantle "simplifying" or drastically reducing the number of available music cues for one reason or another?

Repeating music cues within a show doesn't save them any money. They must still pay for each play.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

So it then amounts to laziness in music selection I suppose. Is Stan Blits still music director in addition to all his other duties?

Stan has never been musical director. He is a music supervisor.

I wouldn't call "laziness" until something like this happened more than once. For all we know, Stan (or whoever's actually in charge of pushing the button) played the wrong track accidentally and nobody noticed or the powers that be didn't think it was worth re-shooting the reveal.

For that matter, if it was intentional, I'm not sure that it's a bad thing to have the same cue twice per show once in a blue moon. How many people (present company and g-r.net excepted) would actually notice that two of the 14+ music cues per show were the same and how many of them would think it's a bad thing?

To be fair, the cues were not identical.

The 3-prize introduction for Line 'Em Up (Act 5) was S-32.

The cue used in Squeeze Play (Act 6) was M-32.

Same melody, different instrumentation.  I would agree that generally this doesn't (and shouldn't) happen.

I don't know if I call it lazy or not....didn't PiR often use part of The Cats more than once on each show during the Barker age?

Who's in charge of keeping track of cue numbers now and where can I find the most recent list?

Actually, they've always had numbers.  Names like "Bean Stalker" and "Big Banana" aren't used by the show; in fact, I'm sure John could tell us what is used for those cues.

Alright, how about "Big Banana - Trombones" and "Big Banana - Rhythm Vamp" (Yes, it exists!  I found it on one of the Score Productions demo reels!)?
