I disagree. There seems to be a trend away from announcers who sound like announcers. I liked announcers who sounded like announcers. JD doing the intro today just sounded like a regular guy yelling into a microphone.
To me, it sounded like a stereotypical (and somewhat artificial) game show host yelling into a microphone, but obviously ymmv.
This signature is currently under construction.

There's only one man for the job imho - original Price announcer, the legend that is Mr JOHNNY GILBERT.

ROD was a legend too imho and so was always gonna be a difficult act to follow. Rich never really filled the void left by Rod imo.
This is Gameshowcrackers speaking for The Game Show Forum, a Mark Goodson Television Production

Actually, Don Pardo was the original announcer......Johnny Gilbert didn't start until 1963.

My, but that's a lot of emphasis to put on something that isn't even true.

Johnny did announce on the original Price, but was not the original announcer.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

^ Johnny Gilbert became the announcer on TPIR when it moved to ABC. Don Pardo was contracted to NBC, though G-T did offer him $50K a year to jump ship. Pardo opted to stay at NBC - looking back, that was a wise decision.

Back on topic. JD makes Rich sound like Johnny O - figureatively speaking. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Which, as I said, makes it not true.

Am I the only one who thinks JD Roberto looks like mid-70s Bob Eubanks?

As for his announcing, he has the energy, he just needs to work on where to add so much emphasis during reads. His random interjections seem a bit weird too. I kinda like the peanut gallery feeling, but if he's going to speak up, do so, and not just make it sound like random mutterings. Someone said it's like he doesn't realize his mic is on, and I agree 100%. Johnny O added the occasional joke, and it worked.

How do you know the production team isn't encouraging him to make comments as he sees fit?

I haven't scanned all 21 pages on the topic, so please forgive me if I'm repeating the news, but another announcer scheduled for an on-air tryout is David Lawrence (aka David H. Lawrence XVII, his SAG name). Though you may recognize him as one of the second-tier villains from Heroes seasons 3-4 (Eric Doyle the "puppet master") or some of his other recent TV guest spots like "Lost" and "The Unit," his friendship with Drew Carey goes back to when David was a morning-drive DJ in Cleveland in the '80s and Drew got into the comedy biz by writing jokes for him. Quoting David from a post in his Google group dedicated to voiceover:

"I'd love to see you in the studio audience for my on-air audition for The Price Is Right. I'll be doing 14 shows (now THAT'S an audition!), and you can visit their website to reserve your seat. You might even get picked to come up to Contestant's Row, bid, play a pricing game, spin the wheel, or participate in the Showcase Showdown!

"The dates I know about are October 25, 26 and 27, and November 1, 2 and 3. They tape two shows a day - and I don't know when the 13th and 14th shows are going to be taped."

P.S. Full disclosure: I'm an acquaintance of David, starting when he hosted his tech talk radio show, Online Tonight.

I was never Rich's biggest supporter, and I'm sure Randy would be a great fit, but FM doesn't seem interested in him.
That being said, looking back at the post-Rod auditions, just about every one of those guys had a better vocal quality than Roberto does. Even the ones we hated. Freemantle Mike Richards wants more personality, and i can understand that, but it's also The Price is Right, what has become a television institution. It should at the very least have a professional sounding announcer.
Help control the moron population, if you know a moron, kick him in a strategic location.

Clearly you didn't hear Daniel Rosen.

Roberto sounds perfectly serviceable to me. I think to suggest he's "unprofessional" is a stretch. A BIG stretch.

Anyone care to copy-edit that sentence? I can find 2 things I'd tighten up.

What makes them seem weird to me is that he's not on camera.  When one of the models comments, we're seeing them at the same time; they're part of the scene.  When Jonathan does it on LMAD, he's there.  It's not the randomness that bothers me, it's the disembodied-voiceness of it.  I have no problem with there being a little more conversation.  I encourage it from the models; it seems to me it'll make them much more "characters" in this show than just eye candy.

I'm sure they are. What I'm saying is that it seems like he doesn't realize his mic is on, and Clay made a valid point as well. If they want him to add some more to the show, then that's fine, but the random one or two word comments on top of not showing him just seems weird.
