Henry Morgan- I am stretching a bit with "obnoxious" here... Henry was just not a happy guy and didn't always seem to be having much fun with IGAS. He was supposedly not very nice or sociable with the panel outside of the show. Sometimes it did look obvious that he'd rather be elsewhere. However, to his credit he did a decent job of filling in for Garry Moore when he was out, so maybe Henry liked the hosting job better.
No, no, Henry is just being irascible!

I love the producers' brilliant idea that they needed a foil on the panel, someone not to like. I've heard the reference more often with Dorothy Kilgallen, but Henry has the same role. Indeed, that was what inspired Roone Arledge to put Cosell on Monday Night Football. When the panel on IGAS did silly things, it was Henry who made them look silly.

I must say, though, I want to know what he was kibbitzing about all the time with Bess or Faye.

JM J. Bullock - was loud and nutty, I wouldn't say he was obnoxious.

Richard Simmons - see JM. J. Bullock

You're saying this is not obnoxious.
Jonathan Winters - Peter Marshall said in an interview that Jonathan needed characters to do to feel "comfortable" so the writers started including that in questions to him. I thought he was amusing, but yes he did eat up time on occasion.

Fred Travelena - did imitations when it was HIS TURN on MG, he didn't hog the spotlight when other celebs were on camera, so I didn't have a problem with him.
I love Jonathan Winters, so I didn't mind even if he stalled the show. Jan Murray stalled the show and wasn't funny.

Impressionists and ventriloquists are usually lousy on these shows. They have to set up the dummy or the impression each time so it's never a quick one liner. Ronn Lucas and Scorch may have killed Match Game '90 single-handedly. (Pun kind of intended.) Wayland and Madame were the exception that proves the rule--the last episode aside, Peter ignored Wayland and spoke to Madame, and she was funny.
William Shatner when he threw the chair on Pyramid. Notice he never came back after that.
This appears to be a really common misconception -- Xanfan's celebrity listings page for $10,000/$20,000 (compiled by William Padron, IIRC) lists Shatner as appearing the week of 12/26-30/77 with Barbara Feldon, while the listings for the Cullen $25,000 have Shatner appearing twice in 1978 (2/22 with JoAnne Worley, 9/24 with Loretta Swit).

Shatner's throwing a chair probably didn't put him in good standing with Bob Stewart and the staff, but he was still asked back...which leads me to believe that a later incident was the last straw, and hence his total disappearance from the show in late '78. The Swit episode is on YouTube, and Shatner is mentioned as also being on fellow Stewart series The Love Experts.

To each their own. I'd rather see her there than some of the regulars, who are just dull. Half the time, I fast forward through the Dictionary Corner monologue after the first numbers game.
Patti Deutsch and her inane MG answers designed to show off her silly idea of "humor" that no contestant ever would have thought of in a million years.
THIS. It annoyed the living hell out of me anytime the game hung in the balance, and she'd give one of her idiotic answers, thus screwing the contestant from at least tying the game.

Richard Simmons was pretty obnoxious on Bergeron's HS as well. Everytime someone called on a celebrity, you'd hear Richard yell out "Yayyy! ___!" like a cheerleader.
"It wasn't like this on Tic Tac Dough...Wink never gave a damn!"

Maybe so, but on MG/HS Fred interrupted the game during HS when it wasn't his turn with pointless impressions, with Arsenio Hall joining in. It was like taking advantage of a substitute teacher.

Similarly, in the early HS eps. when Buddy Hackett would interrupt the game. Peter used to let him have his say, but later politely told him he couldn't interrupt the game. I'm not saying Buddy was obnoxious, but he did get into trouble over a joke about Jeruselem. There is an episode in circulation where Buddy is noticeably absent during the credits, and Peter talks about it in his book. Not only did he tell a racy joke, but they were concerned about him doing research on the topics of the questions he would be asked. The stars were NEVER told the question, only the subject matter, and a suggested bluff.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Henry Polic II on Pyramid.  The way he kissed up to Bob Stewart got old quickly.

Not to Bob.  They're still best buds.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

On topic now, I'm right with those of you who say Nipsey was not an annoyance. A darned fine game player that cared about the players he was teamed with.
As far an obnoxious panelists, Patti would go with the quite-likely-not-to-match "joke" answers in Round 1 but in Round 2 and any TIE rounds she would try to match the contestant. Her husband, however, I could not stand. Donald Ross, I believe. Or Donald H. Ross.

Alan Sues on "Cross-Wits" who once undermined a contestant's bonus round by just standing there and saying nothing. Yeah, pretty damn annoying.

Of course, we've been down this road before, in another place, another time.

From recent years, I nominate Patricia Heaton's embarrassing visit to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

I always mentally replace "I'm surprised nobody..." with "Hey, look what I know!" 99 times out of 100 it doesn't change the intent of the post one iota.

It got him the gig on Double Talk, didn't it? (Just because he can play word games doesn't mean he can HOST one... much less ANNOUNCE one, as he did on occasion with 100k Pyramid)
