It's been known for quite some time now that Alex Trebek filled in on Wheel in 1980. He referenced this on the April Fools' Day 1997 episode, and I remember him mentioning it on a TTTT'90 episode where Charlie O'Donnell filled in for Burton Richardson.

Also, someone back in the glory days of a.t.g-s mentioned that Alex filled in for Pat in either 1985 or 1986.

Out of curiosity, would anyone happen to know anything about either instance? As in, a rough estimate as to the month or at least season when these happened? I'm assuming that in both cases, Chuck and Pat had just fallen ill.

In the case of Trebek filling in for Woolery, it was late August 1980 and Woolery indeed was sick.  Don't recall the circumstances by which Trebek filled in for Sajak in 1985 or 1986 (if that even happened--even Trebek noted that it had been "16 years" [actually 17] since he had hosted an ep of Wheel).

I think it was summer of 1985, for one show only.  I do recall seeing it.  Not sure what happened to Pat though

Are you sure you want to take those answers at face value, Bobby?  They sound like original research to me.

Actually, it got deleted from Wiki.

Suffice to say that Bobby is not my favorite person today.

By which I mean, "did someone get told?" and it sounds like a resounding yes.

Oh, but he got me back good!

(You're welcome to chime back in here any time, Bobby.)

EDIT:  Perhaps this is going somewhere worthwhile.

For the record, Steve and I are trying to work out a compromise. He admitted that yes, he was a bit of an [anal sphincter] toward me, and I admitted I was a bit of one to him too.
