Three Strikes questions
« on: February 09, 2016, 08:23:35 AM »
I remember a couple of oddities with Three Strikes that were only done with one or two playings, and I am wondering if anyone might know why they tried these changes.

Around 1986 when pricing games were getting a facelift, they briefly changed the bag that the chips go into. Instead of a green bag, they had a solid plastic baseball shaped object. The only problem with it was that it made it harder for Bob to mix around the chips. He even pointed out that he couldn't just grab the bottom of the bag and shake them around. Did they think that it made no difference if the chips got mixed around, maybe trying to save time?

For at least one playing in the 90s, they changed the 3 strikes chips from a red chip with a black X to a white chip with a red X.  They did have a couple contestants who they suspected could see inside the bag before pulling out a chip, so maybe they thought making the  strike chips white, they would look more like the number chips. The only problem was that Bob could easily mistake a number chip with a strike chip, and so could viewers, and of course the chips went back to the original look.

That was mid-1992, after a playing of 3 Strikes where it's believed a contestant cheated.

Relevant part is 6:30 to 6:42. It looks like she throws the chip in her hand back in, then grabs the other one.
