Jeopardy! After Alex
« on: February 01, 2004, 09:25:27 PM »
Folks on Sony's Jeopardy forum started a thread wondering who would follow in Trebek's footsteps whenever he decides to call it quits.  There are some interesting choices over there, but I'd be interested in hearing about what some of our members think.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I don't know if he 1) would consider "Survivor" as a step down, or 2) if, like Bergeron, wants to be more than a game show host, but how about Jeff Probst, given his Rock-and-Roll Jeopardy experience?

Matt, if you don't send them a tape, I will. (it would be of me, though.)

Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Hmm....personally I couldn't stand Probst's work on R&RJ! although I do like him on Survivor.

If there was a chance he'd do it, I'd recommend Anderson Cooper.

Tom Bergeron is out since he doesn't want to do any more game shows, so I'm thinking Marc Summers might do OK(unless he nabs the TPIR gig on Barker's retirement)

 I really, really hope that Summers doesn't get TPiR...it wouldn't fit, I don't think.

Funny -Gordon Elliott immediately came to mind, too - but is it just me, or does the idea of Johnny Gilbert annoucing Gordon Elliott sound strange? There's something about Alex Trebeck's hard-sounding name that makes it sound so right for today's Jeopardy....a no-nonsense name for a no-nonsense game.

I still recommend Jeff Probst.

Like you said, he's done well on Rock & Roll Jeopardy!, so he could do well on Jeopardy! as well.

Jeff Probst has done well on "Rock 'n' Roll Jeopardy"? Just because he doesn't stutter? Granted he's no Rolf, but he has no wit whatsoever.

Gordon Elliott would be great on something. And speaking of TTTT hosts, John O'Hurley might not be bad either.

I don't care if he stutters or not.

You guys mentioned Jeff's experience with R&R Jeopardy!, so that's enough to put him on the list of possible candidates.

But we shouldn't also forget that he's been featured in a few clues on Jeopardy!, and he's been on Celebrity Jeopardy! as well.

Right, and if Pat Sajak should leave Wheel, Rolf Berneschke should be put on the list of candidates, since he has expierence, right?

And we may add Bob Goen as well, since he hosted the show, too.

I think a no nonsense type guy is needed.

I think Gordon Elliot would bring some Aussie wit to the show and is well expirenced. But none of his shows seem to do well, guess hes just Geoff Edwards cursed.

Probst I think is not a good fit for a hard quiz. He was more fit for the laid back Rock and Roll version.

Alot of ppl would kill me and she's probs too pricey but I think Meredith Viera could do well. I like her serious but laid back style on millionaire.

Marc Summers would do a good job but I think most viewers would never be able to get "Double Dare" out of their head

Here's a name we havent discussed: Mark L. Whalberg, I like his style on RR and I think he did well in the old brain teaser format of the Endgame. I think he could be good on a hard quiz like J!.

Really? How hard was R&R Jeopardy! anyway, since I only saw a few shows of it?
