Missed on question 3 tonight, on what was IMO an incredibly vague question about putting inventions in chronological order. Included in the list were "razor blades" and "diapers". Now, replaceable razor blades and disposable diapers would make sense, but without those modifiers, or something like them, I'm left befuddled--only certain that they don't actually want me to estimate the first time someone wrapped cloth around a baby's behind or took a sharpened piece of metal to their face.

("Their" being "someone's", not the baby's.)

Wahoo!  I made it thorugh the 5!  The questions tonight were mostly putting things in chronological order (publishing of books, settings of TV shows).  My favorite question so far of all the ones that I have encountered was

"Put these products in order of what part of the body they would be applied to, starting with the head"

1.  Dr Scholl's Inserts
2.  Halls Cough Drops
3.  Head and Shoulders
4.  Alka-seltzer

I hope that if I get the call, it's not during an awkward moment in my theater class.

Well, it's been five nights now. I haven't gotten past question three on any night, and tonight was the worst, losing on question 1 on a very tough put states in geographical order question.

THIS......F'N.....CLOSE!!!!

I just played the phone game and got to the fifth question by answering four easy ones, but blew the fifth one when I may have been able to look it up!

My questions...

Q1. Famous phrase: Landed, Eagle, The, Has
Q2. Songs by first release (earliest): "Stop in the Name of Love," "Complicated," "Waterfalls," Neutron whatever (is given in this thread)
Q3. Cities (northern first): St. Paul, Sioux City, San Diego, Santa Fe
Q4. Numbers (highest first): sqrt(49), sqrt(25), sqrt(16), sqrt(81)

Four great easy ones. But then...

Q5. Parts of a column in order from bottom to top: Cornice, Base, Capital, Shaft

I wasn't quite sure, so I took a logical guess and got it wrong.  The answer is Base, Shaft, Capital, Cornice.

After I hung up, I turned to look in the dictionary sitting right next to me where the answer is right there on page 269!  I think that if I had the dictionary open while I was playing, I might have been able to flip through it, find the answer and hit the keys in time.

Has anyone tried to have reference books, maps, etc., open while doing the phone game, or is it a waste of precious time?

I went out on what I thought was a pretty hard question tonight...

"Put the following four events associated with comets in order from first to most recent...

1. Comet Hale-Bopp is at its brightest.
2. The most recent appearance of Halley's Comet.
3. Pieces of the Shoemaker-Levy comet crash into Jupiter.
4. Comet Hyukatake comes within 9 million miles of Earth."

Three of those were within three years of each other.  I said 2-3-1-4, and it was actually 2-3-4-1 (1985-86, 1994, 1996, and 1997, in that order).  If only they had been testing my ability to spell Hyukatake, I would have done much better.

Add Mike McConb to the Super Millionaire qualification list.  As for the rest of us, be patient, tonight's Round 6.  Good luck.

As far as the show returnning in May, I can neither confirm nor deny that.  However, if it gets good ratings especially at tne 10PM EST slots, I'm sure it'll come back in May.  Maybe they'll do a 15-night run then.  Who knows.

OK - I've got a puzzle for everyone...

I got to number 4 last night, and got knocked out on the following -

Album Releases, earliest first -

1 - The Wall
2 - (mumble that sounded like "Rope") In The Wind
3 - Jagged Little Pill
4 - Slippery When Wet

I went with 2-1-4-3  : "we're sorry...."

The Wall is around 79 or 80, Jagged Little Pill was 95, Slippery When Wet was 86, so the 1-4-3 part was correct without the 2, which means whatever number 2 was has to be from after 1980.  That lets out Dylan's "Blowin in the Wind" (if that was an album title).  I thought originally of Kansas's Dust in the Wind from the 70's, but that wasn't an album title either.  Same with Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" remake for Princess Diana - that was a single release.

Anybody gotten this one, and heard it correctly, or has another guess for an album title?

Ropin the Wind was an album by Garth Brooks.  which was from 1991

Making the order

(EDIT:  I take WAAAAAAYYY too much time composing these things; in the meantime, Rastaub beat me to the punch.  I had the title right, guessed it was Brooks, and lined 'em up the same way he did. Oh, well...)

Esoteric Eric's stats through Phone Game Night Five:

First Q:  5 / 5
Second:   2 / 5
(including last night, when I hit "7" instead of "4." Grrr...)
Third:    1 / 2
Fourth:   0 / 1
Fifth:    Never qualified

P.S.:  Hey, finally got to 50 posts! It only took eight months! ((8=D))

By the way - I had a question last night that was correct by answering 4-3-2-1 (had to do with ordering discoveries in genetics).

Well, got four tonight...

A North American explorers question got me tonight -- order of first NA expedition:

Lewis and Clark
La Salle
McKenzie
Hudson

Could only place the first and last...

Others were:

Words for a 1999 nonfiction bestseller:

The -- Happiness -- Art -- Of

Cable Networks in order of launch time:

Food Network  --  Weather Channel -- HBO -- E!

US locations, east to west:

Waikiki Beach -- Malibu -- Coney Island -- Myrtle Beach

Aerosmith songs in chron order:

I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing
Love in an Elevator
Walk This Way
Livin' on the Edge

So I feel a little better about myself tonight...

I think that, also, the ordering of questions is a bit suspect:

I know that the fourth question I faced tonight -- the Aerosmith one -- was easier than both the questions I missed on question one earlier in the qualification series.

0 for 6 and this was just sheer stupidity on my part.

Slipped finger syndrome.

Put this is order to form a government wellbeing department.

1) Association
2) National
3) Health
4) Mental

Of course, I hit  2 then 3 before realizing I did it. There really should be a retry your answer option. Bugger all. Stupid me read it aloud before I entered it. Use the ten seconds to your advantage. Good luck all.
