So, after last night's debacle, I figured I'd do a practice round with fictitious information. Super-easy (or easy-to-guess) questions, aced all five. Had to hang up. (By the way, pecks are smaller than bushels, Margaret Mitchell won a pulitzer before Harper Lee, and if a > b > c > d then sqrt(a) > sqrt(b) > sqrt © > sqrt(d), in case you're asked to rank-order square roots of numbers from highest to lowest.)

So I call back and get moderately easy questions, #5 being the listing of U.S. rivers starting in the north, correct order being Yukon-Yellowstone-Arkansas-Chattahoochie. My 'old guy' rule for album titles (i.e., the one I've never heard of is most recent) served me well on question 4 (Candy-O, Nevermind, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Room for Squares.)

Either I got really lucky, or they had like five people last night getting them all correct....

AHHH!! I got to question 5 tonight, which was put these Botanical Gardens in order starting with the Pacific Ocean and going east.  There was Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Royal Botanical Garden, and two I've never heard of.  I figured Brooklyn was first, and Royal was second, but I must have switched the last two around.  Dang it, I probably won't make it past question 1 again.

3-4-1-2 is the correct order.

Geez Louise, this phone game is tough!  Knocked out on question two:

Put the following books in chronological order, starting with the earliest:

1. Tale of Two Cities
2. Mother Goose Tales
3. Canterbury Tales
4. Tales from something (I misremember, mainly because I've never heard of it before, and no, it wasn't Tales from the Crypt)

I went with 3-1-2-4, having no idea when the original Mother Goose came about.  I'm anxious to see what calibre the questions on the show will be, and if any contestants will actually get to test drive the new lifelines.

Foiled again!

Put these dogs in order by average height, starting with the shortest.

1) Mastiff
2) Beagle
3) Chihuahua
4) Old English Sheepdog

Boneheaded me tried to think ahead. Put #4 at the end. Instead, should have had it before the Mastiff.

Correct answer: 3-2-4-1

Try again tomorrow.

I again blew it on the 3rd question...

Put these musical groups in order by the # of members, starting w/the most:

1. The Carpenters
2. U2
3. NSync
4. Destiny's Child

I screwed up the first 2 answers, keying in 2-3-4-1 instead of the correct 3-2-4-1, so I'm history for tonight. :-(

Knocked out on question 4 again today.  But before that, I got the much-debated blackjack question.  Here's the wording I got, which actually seems to resolve any ambiguity:

Question 3: Arrange these cards in order of their maximum possible value in the game of blackjack, starting with the highest.
1. ace
2. nine
3. two
4. jack

But my fourth question has a choice I can't find anywhere I look.  Maybe I misunderstood the question ... any ideas?

Question 4: Arrange these TV characters in the order of when they made their debut, starting with the earliest.
1. Brandon Walsh
2. Felicity Porter
3. Rory Gilmore
4. Tootsie Ramsey (???)
4-1-3-2. *bzzzt!*

What's a Tootsie Ramsey?  Anyone?  Bueller?

I'm guessing it was Tootie Ramsey from The Facts of Life.  You mixed up the last two, it should be 4-1-2-3.  Felicity debuted two years before Gilmore Girls.

Maybe it's Tootie from The Facts of Life.  *shrug*

I got the single hardest first question in the history of civilization today.  OK, it wasn't that hard but I thought it was tricky for a first question and not as easy as putting the 4 words of a song's title in order.

Place the following inventions in order of creation, starting with the earliest.

1.  CD Player
2.  Circular Saw
3.  Pneumatic Tire
4.  Potter's Wheel

I went 4-3-2-1.  Nope.  4-2-3-1.  The circular saw was created in 1780 while the pneumatic tire was invented in 1845.

The people who make it on the show will earn it this go-round.

Yeah, Tootie was Kim Fields' character on Facts of Life. If you want to get technical, she made her debut on Diff'rent Strokes, which of course spawned Facts.

D'oh.  Thanks!  Yeah, I realized I had other problems with that one.  Not having a clue who Tootie was, I guessed it was something from the olden olden days.  Nope -- but, imagine that, I did have it in the correct position.  The correct shows and years:

1. Beverly Hills 90210 (1990)
2. Felicity (1998)
3. The Gilmore Girls (2000)
4. The Facts of Life (1979)

Wiped out on number 4 again

Put the following organs of the human body in order by weight, starting with the heaviest -

1 Liver
2 Skin
3 Spleen
4 Kidney - I'm not sure if he said kidney or kidneys

I went with 2-1-3-4.   After trying to look it up, I found (by combining 2 different sources), that it was probably 2-1-4-3.  It could have been a hint that it was probably the same order whether it was 1 kidney or 2 - If I had thought that way, it would have leaned me toward making the spleen the lightest.

Well, at least the second go-round, I made it past the first question!

However, I fell victim to the infamous fallacy of TTFS (Thinking Too Fast Syndrome); i.e., I knew the answer to Question #2, but I punched in the wrong buttons!

The question was:

Put these cable stations in order from launch date, starting with the earliest:

1.  Food Network
2.  E!
3.  HBO
4.  Weather Channel

Showing I have way too much time on my hands, I knew the answer was 3-4-2-1.  Getting too excited, though, I pressed 4-3-2-1!  BZZZZ!  Perhaps I'm destined to just get one more right every night (if that is the case, then I guess I'll be qualifying on Saturday!).

Here's to actually GETTING 2 for my third time!  :)

I was knocked out on question 4 tonight as well...

Put the following European cities in order of their distance from Berlin, Germany, from closest to farthest away:

1. Warsaw, Poland
2. St. Petersburg, Russia
3. Paris, France
4. Rome, Italy

For some reason, I thought St. Petersburg was a lot closer than it really is, and entered 1-2-3-4.  From a quick look at a map, it looks like the order should be 1-3-4-2.

If I remember correctly from the earlier phone games, the choices were "always" presented so that 1-2-3-4 (or even 4-3-2-1? -- my memory is foggy on this point) was never the correct answer.

That tidbit was useful in cases where I might otherwise think something was correct.
