Hosts returning to their show as a guest
« on: December 09, 2020, 07:29:54 PM »
Bill Cullen appearing on Barker's TPiR sparked a thought. How many hosts returned as a guest star to a show they once hosted, either as a panelist, or a cameo?

Off the top of my head:
-Barker making a few appearances after Drew took over.
-Monty appearing on Brady's LMAD.
-Peter Marshall returning to Bergeron's Squares and hosting a round.
-Dick Clark on Donnymid; he also appeared on Cullen's version, albeit while hosting the daytime version at the time. He also did a pre-recorded greeting on the Davidson premiere in 1991.
-Alex Trebek appeared as a panelist on TTTT a couple years ago. They mentioned his hosting gig from the 90s, but I don't know if they showed a clip.
-Louie Anderson on Celebrity Feud.

"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Wikipedia says that Bob Eubanks guest-hosted a couple of episodes of Carnie Wilson's version of The Newlywed Game -- one so that Wilson could play as a contestant with her husband, the other with Monty Hall, Peter Marshall, Wink Martindale and their respective wives as contestants.

Peter Tomarken had a cameo appearance on Whammy! where he ran the show for one question round:

That seems cold — pass him over for the actual gig but give him the consolation prize of asking one question? Dang, GSN...

I remember that it was the Larson's Losers Revenge episode and themed around 1984 so it made sense, but yeah. Have him back for the entire episode.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

No - he got to ask ALL the questions in that round. IIRC, all the questions had to do with 1984, since this was the Larsen reunion show.

Lemme see...
* Ralph Edwards appeared on Bob Barker's first Truth or Consequences to essentially pass the hosting torch on Jack Bailey's behalf. If I'm not mistaken, he also appeared at least once on the 1980s revival.
* Bill Cullen appeared on the 1980s $25,000 Pyramid multiple times as a guest.
* Pat Sajak stopped by during Bob Goen's first daytime Wheel of Fortune. He also stopped by the set during an episode of The Pat Sajak Show, a very fun segment which also saw Goen naming Beat the I.R.S. as one of his past failures.

-Peter Marshall returning to Bergeron's Squares and hosting a round.
Not a round, but it was close - Peter did the player interviews and front game, which ended during Round 2.

Can confirm, and I recommend the latter episode because it's incredibly fun.

Then you have the reverse version, where someone who will host the show appears. (see: Bob Eubanks promoting All-Star Secrets on Card Sharks)
