Regis Philbin, hands down. However, Meredith is not a bad host by any stretch of the imagination. Just if I had a choice, it would be Reege.
Meredith also seems to do a better job with the people in the hot seat.  The way she psychs them out on the reveals is just plain priceless.  She's done that bit of going to commercial, she's also tricked them into thinking they were done when they weren't.  It makes for more interesting TV.
To me, that "psych-out" bit got tiring after the second week.  She's used it way too frequently.
The fact that she goes to a commercial isn't part of her hosting ability; it's more a function of the way the half-hour show is structured with its commercial breaks.
Regis, 100%.

Reeg, only because Meredith needs to be more excited as the crowd is cheering and put some oomph into "LET'S PLAY MILLIONAIRE!!!"

And that's the one thing that I find a bit distracting about Meredith. To me, calling the show "Millionaire" sounds informal, and almost like slang (I said almost), kinda like the producers want her to sound hip or something. Regis at least sounds dramatic when he says "Let's play......Who WANTS To Be....A MEELL-ion...AIRE!!" Almost like Dr. Evil. :-)

SB did an April FOol's post in 2002 that Dick had been signed to host it.

Regis turned down the syndie gig at least twice.  And from watching his impatience taping the first Super BAM, I can see why.  He did not want to have to deal with delays, especially with the fastest finger (he didn't know that they weren't going to have it in the syndicated version).

You make it sound like he did it on purpose. You know very well how the whole thing played out, and I'm surprised you didn't repeat it in agonizing detail.

I don't remember the details of DC being considered for Millionaire, but do recall hearing it on or around 4/1/02

So you made the above post as fact when in fact you have no idea what happened. Even better.

What happened was that Tom Heald of TV Barn started the bogus Clark rumor to see if Beverly would bite on it. True to form, "The World's Foremost Authority" was reeled in hook, line, and sinker, claiming some sort of super-secret insider as his source, and Heald exposed the Perfesser as a fool later in the day, much to everyone's delight (with the probable exception of the Fool himself.)

IIRC, the Perfesser never did issue a retraction, or let on in any way, shape, or form that he had been had.

The way Meredith makes everyone hang on an answer is priceless.  She also tends to be flirtatious at times, which makes for an intresting dynamic for a show like Millionaire.  Regis is better at making good wisecracks, and his demeanor is more "nighttime-ish", more dramatic and serious than "dayime-ish" Meredith.  In all, Regis and Meredith compliment each other well in my view.

Ben basically nailed my opinion on the head too. I will say though, given a choice, that Regis would be it because of his warmer demeanor and smoother pace and stuff.
