How *is* "Whew" pronounced, anyway?

It would be difficult to type out. The best I can do is say blow air out of your mouth in a "wha" sound and end it with an "eeew" in the same hushed tone.

If you ever heard the sound that opened J! during the spinning globe days (also opens the SNES game) that's a fairly good representation of how it should sound.

In honor of the show's anniversary, let me give a refresher on the gameboard:

There were 6 levels.  The first 5 had 5 monitors each w/dollar values ranging from $10-$50.  The 6th level had only 3 monitors.  Their dollar values were $100, $250 & $500.  One player was the "Charger" meaning s/he had to find a blooper & solve it correctly before reaching the next level without running into a block which results in a 5-second penalty.  The other player, called the "Blocker" tries to impeede the progress of the Charger by putting blocks on the board at various places on the board including one on the final level(not sure if the blocker had 5 blocks to use or not).  If the Charger was still anywhere in the first 5 levels with a few seconds left(generally 5) he calls "LONGSHOT!" & goes straight to level 6 at that point.  That's where a secret block is placed by the blocker.  Each player plays a best of 3 round match alternating after round 1.  Winner gets to face the Gauntlet of Villians.  The player in addition to the 60-second base time recieves an extra second per $100 won to solve the bloopers posed by the 10 villians.  If sucessful, s/he won $25,000.  Otherwise, it's $100 per villan defeated.

They were trilons, and the top row went 200-350-500.

Thank you for that almost completely inaccurate "refresher".

Tell you what. Next time you get the idea in your head to do this? Don't.

Indeed...just to clarify, the board was comprised of trilons (not monitors), and the 6th level values were $200, $350, and $500.

I believe the title presented a problem as well...while a cute title, as well as the graphic that accompnied it, the title "Whew" really had nothing to do with the show.
Let's say your opponent is charging and has just solved a level 5 blooper with four seconds left.  He calls for his level 6 blooper...and it's the one you've blocked!  Time runs out during the penalty, and you have just snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.  That would make you say, "Whew!"

ObWhew: Randy Amasia would have liked it here.
Of course if you picked a block after calling the Longshot, you could call it "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". Pat Aiello sure was a master of THAT. :)
