Celebrity Mole DVD Set
« on: May 02, 2004, 07:41:44 PM »
I bought the Celebrity Mole: Hawaii DVD set. Since this was the only Mole version I've seen most of, I couldn't resist. Here's my thoughts:
Packaging:
I thought the packaging was rather odd. Although I like the cover with just the Mole thumbprint logo, I wasn't too happy with the inside. There are three discs, and one is on one side, two on the other. On the side with two discs, they made it so the discs overlap, with the third disc held in with the second. So, the third disc keeps falling out without the second disc. Also, the insert that tells what episode is on each disc is covering the first disc, and it scared me that I was missing a disc when I first got it. Kind of confusing to describe, but thats nothing compared to what's actually on the discs.

DVD Menu Navigation
Nothing too special here. When the menu first pops up, you hear the Mole theme blaring, the Mole logo and pictures of the cast, plus the episodes to choose from. It gets confusing if you don't have much experience in TV and such because the list of episodes is by episode number.
In the bonus section, there are pictures of each member of the cast on each menu.

Episodes:
This is great to experience if you had bad cable. Crystal clear quality with no added footage. The cuss words are still bleeped out, but once you get to the extra stuff on the third disc you won't be as mad.

Extra footage:
This is some great stuff. It's on the menu of the third disc. All of these are unedited; no bleeped out words or anything. A point to make note of is that these clips and all the bonus stuff which had some stuff in the show is a bit akward because no music is added, thus proving that the show is much better with music.
First comes the "Suspicions" section, with different suspicions from different players that try to throw you off on think who the Mole is. I have no idea if all of these were in the actual show. No big whoop here.
Next is the deleted scenes. Some of these are funny, but some of them you could tell why they didn't put them on the show because they are so pointless. My favorite is a scene during the grave diggers game with Kathy and Erik sitting around and talking about hotel porn. Very funny!
Next is the extended scenes, which is basically more of moments that they couldn't include, such as the embarrassing moments of the rest of the gang of whom you didn't see, Stephen yelling at Ahmad, and more.
Then comes the "Funny moments" section. Includes four "funny moments" at which, IMO, are not that funny.
Next is the Post Execution Reactions from the players still left in the game after each episode. Most of these were including in the show, but its even funnier when the language is unedited, like when Kathy talks smack about Stephen after his execution or after Kim's execution.
Next is the Post Execution Interviews, with the players that got eliminated being interviewed.
Next is the Confessions of all the players. These are just highlights, but I'm kind of glad they left it as just this, because most of them were BORING. Except for Frederique's because she's talking in her native language and talks of nothing of the game. I wonder why...

Grade:
A-

I would recommend this to any Mole lover. If you are pissed they never put out the original versions on DVD, BUY THIS DVD SET FOR NOW because then if the DVD proves to be a best seller, the producers of the show just might come out with another, this time with one of the originals.

Hope this review helped you if you were considering buying it...
