Wheel/Jeopardy

How much longer do you guys think Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy will survive in syndication? I am quite confident that it will be a while before they bite the dust, but as we all know, all good shows must come to an end at some point. When do you think these two shows will finally meet their ends?

 Actually, that's just not true.  There are many shows (Meet the Press, Today, Entertainment Tonight, SNL) that could easily last as long as television itself, or at least until a substantial change in the economic model that makes them viable.  And unlike TPIR, both Wheel and Jeopardy are driven much more by their content than by the appeal of their host, so they could easily continue long after Pat, Vanna or Alex steps down.  

Time will tell whether their appeal will match those others I mentioned, but the idea that "all good shows must come to an end" is not a safe assumption.

Well and this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but I think eventually a person's tastes may change, and they may want something different from the 30 or 40 year old game show. Case in point the current reality show craze.

 No one's disputing that shows which aren't attracting viewers should come to an end.  What I'm asking is why you feel that "all good shows should come to end."  That's not the same thing.

Well, regardless of how good the show is, I feel eventually the show will run its course, and I think it should go before it has to be cancelled. You know go out on top.

 Wheel has long run beyond its course, IMHO. If all good things come to an end as you say, Wheel would've been cancelled a good 10 years ago.

J!, OTOH, still has some steam left, and JenKennings is letting it run even further.

The only thing keeping Wheel Of Fortune on the air is those 1.5 million colors of light. Since Matt O. was there and saw it last Friday, he can describe the ecstasy better than I. As I recall, he described it to me on Sunday as "a big rush of colors".

Maybe, with "The Insider" starting up this fall, the industry will finally acknowledge a glut of infotainment shows. Then maybe someone with a terrific idea and terrific connections can get a new game show on the air, one without Whoopi Goldberg, one that might finally prompt a weary public to put aside "Wheel" and watch something fresh and interesting for a change, something without all those damn plugs.

Then Vanna can finally sit down and move on to the lucrative world of Medicare-supplement advertising, and "Wheel" can finally rest for awhile. (Not that it would return in a couple of years as the all-new "Super Wheel of Fortune.")

"Jeopardy," on the other hand, will hopefully last forever.

 I take it you don't care for Wheel much.
