Best "Wheel of Fortune" moment...
« on: September 12, 2004, 11:23:39 AM »
What's your favorite? I'll tell you mine:

From the good ol' US of A:

"A Group of Pill-Pushers!" - Joe

"Armadillo, Texas!" - some woman

Contestants ending the game in ties (which are really rare)

"Miners and **es" - some man

"Chocolate Chip Cookie... s." - teenage women

From a 1988 episode, contestants literally have no brains on one puzzle and on the bonus puzzle

The four $100K wins occured (such as Doug Ross' win a few days before Xmas 2001)

From overseas:

John Deeks: "And here's the host of our show, John Burgess!" Burgo runs out, and slips and falls. Then he gets really mad about him slipping on the floor (probably to a guy who polished the floor). This is from Australia.

One of the hosts of the UK WoF reads so many questions, and neither contestant rings in to answer on all of them (I think the host from that clip was Nicky Campbell).

And where Pat got hit with a pie and then Vanna got hit with the pie in the face after the end of show conversation.

-When Byron won the lot in April 2003 (Very emotional win, indeed).

-When Bonnie and Karen had their little night of terror in December 2002 (and then won the lot) .

-The imfamous "PILL PUSHERS" incident from 2000 (I think).

-The imfamous "THICK AS A *$^%" bonus round incident from last season.

-The famous $60,000+ loss from 1985

I know two wins from the Aussie version that are just as emotional-- Moita winning two Daewoos one two days (first, a Nubira, then a Tacuma, one of a few Daewoos not found on US roads) and Paddy winning a Proton Satria (you won't find this in real life on US roads). Both exist at the Aussie WoF page.

Wow. How did they explain why the contestants' lifeless bodies ended up lying behind the wheel? And one of them in front of the wheel, too.

Repeat after me: The dictionary is our friend...

What's your favorite moment, he asks? And then he proceeds to give his top 100 favorites.
But now here's my favorite moment. Notice! Moment. Singular.
Pat Sajak's last daytime show during the final segment when he and Vanna start smooching and along comes Merv to break 'em up.

When I meant "literally, no brains" I still meant to say they were stupid. It's at the Theatre section at Game Show Central.

Oh. Well, why didn't you just say so? Not that you really have any room to be talking, mind you.

My answers are...

1).  SAN FRANCISCO 1996; When Pat lost his voice.  Vanna hosted the bonus round while Pat turned the letters.

2).  THE MARATHON TIE:  Where three contestants on the NBC version ended up playing three days because of two straight ties.  The returning champ ends up being a 5 time undefeated champ.

3).  HOUSTON 1998; Pat Sajak meets "Male Rose" (Richard) when he picks Pat up after winning the Jackpot round as well as the Bonus round!  Too bad there wasn't $100,000 then!

Yeah, and had he won $100K it would probably go (quoting Marc Summers) "A little something... like this...":

Richard: C... D... M... A!

Pat: All right, here are your letters. Talk it out. You never know what might come spilling out...

("10 seconds" tune plays)

Richard: MARK MY WORDS!!!

Pat: Yeah. That's it.

Richard: WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!! (Picks Pat up, Pat's startled and nearly injured)

Pat: Uh... Richard? I have bad news. You didn't win a car. You didn't win $25,000. You didn't win $30,000. You didn't win $35,000. You didn't win $40,000. Not 45. Not even 50 grand. You've just won (whispers) $100,000.

Richard: OH MY GOD!!!!!! I DON'T BELIEVE IT! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! (Chases Pat while confetti shoots from the ceiling)

Charlie: Richard, money talks to the tune of one hundred thooooouuuuuuuuuuuuusand dollaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrs!!!!!!!

One of my favorite moments was one I saw on the 4000th episode. Don't know when it was, but this one woman got real excited after solving a puzzle, and started screaming. So Pat walks over there as he normally does after a puzzle solve, and while looking into the camera, keeps pointing his finger at her. Each time he does, she screams. Great moment.

Honorable mention: I forget the lady's name, but the old woman who won $100k a few years back was great.  Her reaction upon winning the $100,000  was priceless.
