Simple GS Question

I kinda feel a little embarassed asking this, but It's just been nagging me for a while:

Why did "Match Game" put the year on it's title? (Ex: "Match Game 75")

See, it 'tis a simple question!

Because if they used the month they'd have to change the sign 12 times as often.

More likely they wanted to distinguish it from the 1960s Match Game and "The New" was already being used on TPIR.

An alternate title under consideration early on was Blankety Blanks.

Which, of course, was used by many of the foreign versions (or the singular "Blankety Blank").

I wonder if they ever considered calling it Match Game Plus.

Prob'ly not. I remember they wanted to call Password Plus "Password '79," but that was because of Match Game's success with the year in the title.

But back to Joe and the original question: I've seen Match Game '74. If I'd tuned in earlier today I could've told you for sure because they're running the very early shows on GSN this week.
