5 Easy Questions-
« on: January 02, 2005, 06:20:16 PM »
1. I once saw at Usenet AGES ago about the later eps of 70's nighttime TPIR having an opening with stars instead of the light border...anyone have some details on this?

2. Did the Goen WOF perform well (or at least decent) Ratings-wise on CBS?

3. and part two, why did NBC pick it up again?

4. When did Wheel of Fortune have the dancing wheel spaces open?

and 5.- This one has been bothering me for a LONG time. Sometime in the 80's, NBC game shows had a promo/contest or something like that called Car-azy (or something along those lines). Does ANYONE remember this, or am i just touched in the head?

2. Don't think it did stellarly, or CBS would have kept it rather than put in some third-tier half-hour talk show(Barbara Deangelis) or reruns of Designing Women in its place.

4. mid 90s.

On #1, the only circulating 'Nighttime TPIR' w/ Bob Baker (not Dennis James) does have a star boarder on the edges.

I would like to know more about questions #2 and #3

For #4 if you mean the striking, spinning 'Wheel' graphic on titles in the Nineties, it began on the first B. Goen show on CBS. I liked it too.

In response to #1, this is maybe what you're thinking of: Video (RealPlayer Format)

The clip in question is at about 5:47 in the file.  The file contains the mini-feature on CBS game shows from their 1978 special "CBS On The Air", which commemorated the network's 50th anniversary from both radio and television.  A few of these clips were taken and reused in last year's "CBS at 75" special, if my memory serves me correctly.  Just like "CBS at75", some "What's My Line" footage from the syndicated version was converted to black and white.  I believe the PiR "star open" was there too.  I apologize for the occasional video jumps and scratchy audio - the source was from a 27 year-old VHS tape!

Speculation--they weren't very happy with the ratings LMaD9x was getting, perhaps.

Maybe they needed to pick up that Bob Baker show instead (sorry, PaulD, but I couldn't resist).  ;-)

Very cool clip - thank you! Thought the set up on the stage while Art was talking was neat.

On the Barker nighttime eps there was a board with colored twinkle lights which were matted over the audience for the opening. The opening copy read "This audience is sparkling with excitement because a fortune in fabulous prizes", etc.

That Price into was very interesting. First time seeing that.

I never knew CBS did a special in 1978.

That would explain the photo in one of the offices of Television City. It's a group photo circa that time frame with tons of people. At least 50. (Barker, Arlene Francis, etc...)

And one of the few times Barker's in a tux.

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I'm guessing you don't remember the many years that Bob did the Miss USA or Miss Universe pageants.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.
