If CBS took back the 10-11am time slot....
« on: February 22, 2005, 03:20:41 AM »
I was wondering what you would put on the schedule if CBS were to take back the 10-11am time slot from the affiliates for network programming.  Although this is very unlikely, I was wondering what ideas you would have, more like a "what if".  Here are my ideas:

10am:  All-New Match Game:   this is basically an updated version of MG '7X, but not TOO updated like MG '98!

10:30am: The Price is Right:  moving TPiR to 10:30am would make it harder for affiliates to pre-empt the 10-11am CBS programming, especially with a top-rated GS like TPiR

11:30am:  Ryan's Hope: The Next Generation:  like Match Game '7X, this was a daytime soap which deserved a longer run, but fell victim to the same thing that axed MG '7X, moving the show around to bad time slots that were often preempted by many affiliates.  This is an brand-new current run of the show, much like All-New Match Game, focusing on the the current going ons of the Ryan's and their friends and family members.  Bill Bell (Y&R, B&B) will be Exectuive Producer (especially since he wanted another half-hour for CBS), but creator Claire Labine will be head writer and have complete creative control over the show.

12:00pm:  local programming
12:30pm:  Young & the Restless
1:30pm:  Bold & the Beautiful
2:00pm:  As the World Turns
3:00pm:  Guiding Light

If anyone has their own ideas for filling this time slot, please feel free to post!  :)

I'd certainly like to see another game on network daytime, but I don't think moving "Price" would go over too well.  It's strong ratings at 11 a.m. deliver large audiences into the affiliates noon newscasts.  Moving it might take away some of those viewers, and the affiliates wouldn't be happy.

I'd be inclined to leave TPIR at 11, and put in another game show at 10:30.  Possibly either "Pyramid" or "Password Challenge" (even though NBC did the two previous puzzle versions of "Password").

My vote goes to a combo of The Joker's Wild and Tic Tac Dough hosted by Jim Peck and The Winker respectively. Failing that, I'd suggest Gambit and High Rollers. Ya think Alex would want to host HR?

I like the idea of TJW and Gambit leading into TPIR.  It's 1972 all over again!
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I'm not going to offer any ideas on what CBS would put in that slot if they ever did take it back.  It wouldn't matter.  The whole scenario would play exactly like this joke about a schoolteacher trying to explain basic subtraction to a wiseacre student:

"Billy, if you have five pieces of candy and Joey asked you for one, how many would you end up with?"

"Five."
"Disconnect her buzzer...disconnect EVERYONE'S buzzer!"

I would love for CBS to return to a Morning block of game shows. However what local affiliate is going to be willing to give back that time to the Network? It wouldn't be an easy battle. I do believe that everything in life comes around full circle. Games in the morning were HOT once and they will probably be HOT again. The question is how far in the future will it happen and what Network will be daring enough to try it again first.

However, the 10 AM slot on some CBS stations (New York, Philly, Detroit, Boston and Miami) is already filled with a CBS show -- Guiding Light, turning over the 3 PM slot to syndicated shows.  For some of those stations, that show is Dr. Phil.  I don't think you're going to convince Viacom to move Guiding Light back to 3 and move Dr. Phil to a late night slot so you can clear an hour of Dragon! -- The All New Tic-Tac-Dough starring Brian Dunkelman.

Your larger hope is the 9 AM slot, where most of the CBS O&Os (except Chicago, Salt Lake and Green Bay) air Larry Elder.  CBS/Viacom/King World does not own the show (it's Warner Bros.), so if you can convince them to dump that for an hour you may get to see The New New Battlestars hosted by Graham Elwood and 21st Century Tattletales (taped in Massachusetts) hosted by Richard Simmons.

I will enhance that suspicion further by adding the following:
I'd love to have Jim Peck back on daytime television. SWAK!

Loving you in my dreams,

They do, but they cancelled the show in 1989, primarily due to being in a bad time slot (12pm-12:30pm) that was often pre-empted for local news.   Many daytime soaps moved to new networks after being cancelled by their original network.  For example; The Edge of Night moved from CBS to ABC in December 1975, and Search For Tomorrow moved from CBS to NBC in March 1982.

Hope this helps! ;-)

Actually, I believe those were the only two to do so--not exactly many. In addition, they were owned by Proctor & Gamble and not by the networks on which they were telecast.
