As I'm sitting here watching today's episode, I had a thought - how come they never jacked up the values or anything, for the nighttime version? That was a common practice..

Wheel of Fortune's top dollar value was $2,000 for daytime, $5,000 for nighttime
Family Feud paid out $5,000 for fast money in daytime, $10,000 at night

I wonder why CS never started you out with a higher amount in the money cards (like $500 for example), and didn't have like an $800 addition when you got to the middle row.....Since it was a nighttime show.

Some would say a great game can stand on its own without mo money, but I think they added the extras a few weeks in to set it apart somewhat.  A number of stations aired it in early fringe rather than prime access (and in the state of Michigan, no station aired it.)

While it seems like a good idea, let's not forget what the potential top prize was on the Eubanks version. Although no one ever won it, 32 grand is a decent prize, in my book. Why would you need to change it? Plus, if they added the car game anyway towards the end of the run, to me it didn't matter.

They kind of did however, with the introduction of prize cards (including a $5000 one). If I'm not mistaken, was the car round introduced first on Rafferty's also?

Due to the fact that I have entirely too much time on my hands, I discovered that with that setup, a $500/$800 addition system, the top prize would have been $76,800. How many other shows were really serving up that much money at that time?

The increase from $28,800 to $32,000 was enough for the remake, IMHO. More money doesn't always mean more ratings.

Yes, the cars were originally Cadillacs, and a player that won one retired undefeated. After a few weeks of that, the cars became sports cars like Camaros and Fieros. Players at that point stayed until they won five games, or in the case of Brian Hunt, were forced to retire. He won $63,105 in cash and prizes, including two cars, and was forced to retire as winning one more car would put him over the winnings limit at the time which was $75K(they taped at CBS, and must have aired on some CBS O&O's). I think the prize cards in the maingames were introduced at the same time the cars were.

It was $75K by 1986. I think Pyramid had just announced on air the new rule of "retire at $75K, keep up to $100K" at the time of Brian's win in November 1986. As to why Brian had to leave Rafferty CS upon winning $63K in prizes and cash, he was told, and posted in ATGS in 1997, that winning one more car would put him over the $75K limit.

Well remember the Wheel of Fortune Christmas Episode that was shown on GSN a few years ago?  That family team won well over $100K and at least $25K had to go to charity because the rules stated at the time that you can walk away with no more than $75K due to Wheel (syn) operating under CBS rules since most of their flagship affiliates were CBS O & O stations.  Press Your Luck though I can't understand because Mr. Larsen was able to keep everything and that was well over $100K during his tenure on that show?  Judges, can we get a ruling on this?
