Not a bad time for games.  Interestingly, "Password" switched to color that week but TVGuide didn't indicate it.  Also, in those days, it was quite common for a station to be affiliated with more than one network.

This would be the beginning of the syndicated repeat package, wouldn't it?

(And they ended up spending more than a month in Hollywood, as it turned out.)

O/T: The Monkees first aired on NBC September 12, 1966, as well.

Did (8) in Columbia (KOMU) by chance air ABC's "Dark Shadows" at 3 instead of "Match Game"?

What we have here is a prime example of how the FCC really blew it back in the early 1950s by not having the guts to go with Allen DuMont's idea of non-intermixed VHF and UHF channel allocations.  Had they done so, Joplin-Pittsburg, Springfield and Columbia-Jefferson City would have probably been three-affiliate markets long before ABC and CBS went to partial color in prime time.  As it was, Springfield's ABC Channel 27 didn't sign on till 1968 (it's since moved to Ch. 33), Columbia's KMIZ-17 didn't go on till 1971 and Joplin's Ch. 16 might have also gone on in 1971, stealing NBC away from Pittsburg's Ch. 7 and allowing Ch. 12 in Joplin to become a full-time ABC affiliate.

Poor ABC had to wait till everybody bought their first color sets or got a new portable in 1965 or later--their first sets with UHF built-in--to reach primary status in those markets with one or two VHFs.

Yes, it would.  I guess the original plan was to spend just a month in Hollywood - I think it ended up being three.  It's been reported elsewhere that they were in Hollywood to allow time to convert the New York studios to color.  I guess that conversion must have taken longer than they originally thought.

(8) Columbia aired "Porky Pig" at 3.  "Dark Shadows" was listed, but it was on (8) Tulsa.
