Dates For Game Show Moments
« on: June 21, 2005, 06:32:52 PM »
Hi.  I'm working on a new TV Land special about the Most Unexpected TV Moments and we're considering some game show moments.  I'm trying to get specific air dates on a few game show moments and so far I've been unable to do so.  I'm hoping someone can help.

Here's what I need:

THE BIG SHOWDOWN (Host Jim Peck falls down stairs)  I know it's episode #68 and taped on March 14, 1975 but I don't have an air date.

MATCH GAME (Panel revolts and stops the show when they don't agree with the judge's call)  I believe the year is 1977.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT (Yolanda Bowersley falls out of her top)  I believe the year is 1977.

FAMILY FEUD (Fred Baedeker bombs out on the big board with bad answers) I believe the year is 1976.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

According to matchgame.org, the "School Riot" episode aired the week of 7/4-8/77 (and I believe we can rule out the 4th).  I can't pinpoint it exactly, but this should narrow it down considerably (someone can fill in the blanks [no pun intended]).

And welcome aboard!

If I'm not mistaken, this incident occured on the day that the "Secret X" game debuted, which was fall 1977. That might help you narrow your search...good luck!

I've been able to narrow it down to the week of July 4-8, from various resources on the web...I want to say it was the Thursday or Friday show.

This guy again?  Surely we can find some other nitwit who appeared on Feud.

I must admit, I'm surprised TV Land  has any interest in all at airing game show clips.

I thought I had already narrowed it down to said week:

Although good job coming up with the "Thursday or Friday" part.  :)

... and Secret "X" first taped on 6/27/77.  Not 100% sure of the airdate.

I remember an Entertainment Weekly article saying September of that year. For some reason, I want to say that the article said Sept. 13, but it was like six years ago. :-/

As for the MG77 school riot, I seem to remember it was discussed on the Match Game Message Board a few years ago as being episode #1005.  So, according to the aforementioned matchgame.org episode guide and plugging in other wise deductions further up, that should make it the Friday, July 8, 1977 show.

And maybe how about another Price moment for the special, one that hasn't been seen for a bit, like Janice with that pesky Amana fridge falling on her?  I mean, it's nice to see any game show moments, but pull a bit deeper from the vault.  I'm just asking...nicely.  No harm, whining, or screaming is meant or implied. :)

PS...Also, I guess you've noticed this is my first post here.  Queen of Nerdocrombesia is also my handle on the GSN boards, but some of you might know me as BrettReilly on the late Match Game Message Board.  And I've been in email correspondence with at least one of you.  I'll put a post in the intros thread in a bit; I just wanted to add my 2cents of info and say h'lo.

Wow, I was told you guys are good, but I hadn't expected so many replies so fast.  Thanks to everyone who is working on helping me with this.  Looks like I've got dates on Match Game and Family Feud, but I still need help with The Big Showdown and The Price Is Right.

Just to clarify, the special I'm working on is a "Most Memorable Moments" kind of show, which is why we're considering the same clips everyone has seen.  I'm sure there might be better or more obscure material out there, but you've got to admit, these are moments that even non-game-show-fans can recall.

Thanks again to everyone!

Forgive me for not knowing this, having hung around here for so long, but wouldnt the networks have a record (or log) of when any specific episode airs even if episodes are erased?..Couldnt anyone ask NBC ABC or CBS when a show aired?

There were only two pre-emptions of The Big Showdown prior to show #68, so by my calculations that show should have aired on Friday March 28, 1975.  That is assuming the tape number matches the episode number.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.
