A Star for Wink Martindale
« on: June 23, 2005, 03:59:34 PM »
I just got some great news from Wink. Hollywood's "honorary mayor" and Chamber of Commerce member Johnny Grant called him Wednesday with the good news that the committee voted unanimously earlier in the day to honor Wink with a star on the Walk of Fame.

The induction will be held in 2006. Wink will be scouring the Boulevard in the months to come as he will be selecting his location from among the available stars. Wink's had a hell of a run from his first TV show "Mars Patrol" in the 1950s, through his toils in local radio on the way to KMPC in L.A., to his record setting TV career as host of something like 19 game shows, and most recently to immortality in casinos coast-to-coast as he will be the subject of a couple of upcomming slot machines.

Wink's a favorite of many fans, and from my work with him on several shows can attest to the fact that he is a devoted pro. I'm sure we all congratulate him; I'll forward any comments posted in this thread to Wink.

That's some great news to hear! I wonder if he's starting in the next month... I'm visiting LA with my school's drama club and we might be seeing Jeopardy!

Outstanding. I would've thought he'd received that honor long ago. But at least it's upcoming, so cheers to him.
(No need to pass that on to The Winker; I was merely offering The Don Howard Commentary).

I hope he wears one of his matching tie/cummerbund sets with a tux to his unveiling ceremony--then does that great spin move after they show him the star :P

If either of the two 'stars' on either side of Bob Barker is vacant, Wink should consider placing his 'star' on either one. That would give the so-called 'WGMC' another thing to get irritated over!

Now, who's up for getting the "Boy Singer" his own star?

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Betty Kennedy of the Big Board!'

Wink should get three stars-one for TV, one for radio and one for recordings (remember "Deck of Cards"?)  Congrats!
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

And Wink was back on TBN just a few weeks ago to update "Deck of Cards" among other things.  The interview preceding it with Sandi and Wink was conducted with another classic GS regular:  Reverend Clifton Davis.  The theme was the longevity of their marraige, which in Hollyweird terms, is quite long (though I'm near certain it will never last 80 years).

Out of curiosity, what slot machine is Wink going to be on (Granted, its probably Tic Tac Dough), or is it something else?
Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

If Bob and Wink have achieved much in their own rights, why would Bob be mad? Geez.

But all aside...congratulations Wink! You deserve it!

It's actually one of his own creations, I think. It's called Wink's Survey's of America. It suposedly features his voice, surveys, and there's some kind of virtual Wink that comes with the package. I don't see the Wink in the virtual guy they have standing on the website...

It's the pompadour. ;-) He looks like a cross between Wink and mid-80s Bob Barker.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Congratulations on getting a star Wink!  He really deserves it!

I gotta ask:  I wonder how many spots are available right now for a Walk of Fame star?  With over 2,000 now, I'm sure they must be close to fillling up the Boulevard by now.

Pete doesn't have one either? Well, that's gotta get fixed. Anyone have Johnny Grant's phone number? I need to pester him about his snubbing of Blake Emmons as well.

Getting a star for Blake may be a tough row to hoe.  Most of his work in the entertainment industry was done in Canada. As far as I can recall there were two things Blake  did in Hollywood.  He played "Cowboy #2" on an episode of the Betty White sitcom "Golden Girls" and he was a contestant on Bill Cullen's version of "The Joker's Wild." Two hosts of "Chain Reaction" in the same room! That is like a free ride when you've already paid!
