I've been looking fruitlessly for that song (Huey Lewis did not include it in his 1996 compilation CD), so if nothing else this is the next best thing!  For that matter, I never heard \"Easy Money\" until I saw John's other video, but I have the tape now.

The clip was GREAT! Thanks for posting it John!

However, I will say this: Watching that clip makes me appreciate the Marshall and Bergeron versions more. Why? Seeing that 2 1/2 minute clip of the stars acting like complete idiots, that STUPID elogated cooking square, the extra props and stuff, and of course-JM J. Bullock, I now agree with whoever said the 80's version was a \"Circus.\" (Who said that anyway?)

I believe it was Merrill Heatter himself.

And for the record, I LIKED Davidson Squares....take it at face value and it's not bad.

Haven't seen it in years, but thinking of all the clips I've seen in recent years, I think the biggest problem with the show was that they seriously tried to do way too much in the one half-hour, seeming like chaos. Again, it's been a while, but I remember Davidson being like Michael Burger on MG98, not being able to keep the show in control.

You're right. And IMO, that was the same problem with MG/HS.....two rounds of MG and some real stars would have made it work a lot better.

The Davidson Squares was the first version I ever saw (thanks USA). I don't remember much of it, but I remember enjoying it. The theme music was superb, as well. I'd love to see it on GSN. It'd be better than a lot of the garbage they have on now.

As I do over at animemusicvideos.org, let's give it the ratings treatment here....

(These categories are graded on a scale of 1 to 10, and please forgive me if the ratings are harsh. I am grading this on its own merits, and not trying to compare it to the AMVs I like to watch.)

Originality: Hollywood Squares video. Huey Lewis's \"Hip to be Square\". Kind of expected here. Clips of stars from back in the day. 6.

Capture Quality: Of course most of the stuff is on tape, so of course the quality is going to be suffering. But you make do with what you got. Still, there were some clips that still looked pretty awful even on the video. 6.

Sound: Logical choice for theme of this video. However, if you're going to edit the song to make it shorter, make sure the edits make sense. The music on the whole is very good. 6.

Action Sync and Lip Sync: Lip sync not very relevant, although as far as action sync goes, the cutaways need to me a bit more on the beat and right at certain points in the song. N/A.

Special Effects: None needed, actually. A fade in at the beginning and a fade out at the end is enough. Things kept simple. 7.

Effort: Nice job to put together an interesting GSMV, as it were. A very nice effort put together here. 7.

Re-viewability: Game show otaku will want to watch this a lot. As for me, even though I like the game shows, I'll watch it a few times. 5.

Overall: If you excuse the clip quality and the odd edits in the music, it's a good video. 6.

Good Points: Good music choice, nice blast from the past with the Davidson version of HS.
Bad Points: Clip quality, odd edits, action sync kinda suffers.
In General: Don't get me wrong, this is a good video.

Nice job. Very nice. Very enjoyable 2 minutes of time.

I'll say this. Davidson HS was the best in music and worst in humor.

Jim J. Bullock should be deported from the country.

What really got my attention when I finally saw the show again last year was the rather fancy-schmansy cars they offered in the first couple seasons, but it's apparent the budget went south by 1989 as they went from Cadillacs to Hundayis. (sp?)

Watching in that video (Which is great), I think they were trying to copy Marshall's version with the celeb names in the same font as before (And is it me or did the set look like a updated version of the infamous 1980 set ?)

And it had one heck of a sendoff ! (Although it was sung as to signify the end of the season, not of the series)

Compared to his... ahem... \"performance\" on Pyramid (Was the show desprate for a replacement for Clark ?), Davidson was a fine host and of course he was great entertainment! (/GSC)

Thanks for the ratings review...but keep in mind that this was done a long time ago when i didnt have a video capture device, so this video was made with just two VCR's connected together...I cleaned it up a little here but didn't have time to sync clips and edit to the beat! :)
