If there was a Jack Barry biopic made...
« on: August 10, 2005, 04:32:05 PM »
In the 1994 movie "Quiz Show" (which was all about the Twenty-One scandal, of course), Christopher McDonald did a very well job playing Jack Barry, even if it was a minor part.

But what if a movie (feature or television) made on Barry's life after the scandals came to fruition? It'll pick up where it left off, with Jack doing local TV work until his national TV return with Joker's Wild, followed by Tic Tac Dough, his reunion with Dan Enright, all the way up to his 1984 death.

McDonald may reprise his Barry role, but who could do a good Wink Martindale/Thom McKee?

If you want the movie to get greenlighted:

Wink Martindale: Ben Stiller.  Thom McKee: Owen Wilson. Jack Barry: Vince Vaughn
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

It would take a lot of naked photos of Executive Producers and Studio Executives.

I haven't seen this bad of an idea of lame fiction since.....when did Passepotatoes post about Geoff Edwards last?

Christopher McDonald was a lousy Jack Barry. He was too goyish. Ironically, I would have given Maury Povich a shot in that role as there wasn't that much acting involved.

If there were two well-cast roles in that picture, they were David Paymer as Dan Enright and Paul Scofield as Van Doren pere.

Ralph Fiennes was Charles Van Doren. And of course, Povich did the disastrous 2000 "Twenty-One" revival. And Vince Vaughn as Jack Barry?? Now we're cooking!

BTW, I finally web-ordered "Quiz Show" on DVD after trying to find it at the stores both here and during my recent trip to the South. In the movie you could briefly hear audio of Bob Barker hosting "Truth or Consequences."

Esoteric Eric, who still can't believe Rob Morrow's accent in that film; as a native Massachusett, I can safely say that the only folks I ever heard talk like that were the Kennedys themselves...

I disagree. I thought Povich 21 was pretty good. True, it screamed of Mo' Money Syndrome (©2005 LemonCo), but the format worked.

Irrelevant, given that Quiz Show was made in the early '90s. And Ralph Fiennes was too continental, too European to be a plausible Charlie Van Doren. Watch a C.V.D episode of Twenty One and compare.

As for being disastrous, Twenty One was fraught with problems in the '50s which led to its being rigged. It still had many of those same problems in 2000.

I know it was a sarcastic comment, but I could actually kinda picture Vaughn as Barry. Call me crazy (YOU'RE CRAZY!)...

If they did touch on tic tac dough, from what I understand the original Apple software still may exist according to Bob Bishop.

Ron Schwab may have it, but without 10 Apple II computers you're kinda stuck.

Hey Lemon, how's that timer coming?
