Interesting. You have to think the dip in 18-49 was due to the football game, even though the football game, by all reports, was complete and utter crappe.

What was the consensus as to what it would have to do to be considered successful? I don't remember. I wanna say it was an 8 rating.

No kidding about how crappe that game was.. wasn't even a relevant one either.

Hope it maintains these ratings and doesn't collapse like It's Your Chance of A Lifetime did.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but would anyone agree the straddling aspect will keep more viewers tuning in than if the show did not? The editing does chop out a lot of drama, but not knowing what a contestant has in their case 'til tomorrow might hook some casual viewers.

I do---it all adds to the whole "Call your friends and tell them so-and-so's knocked off the [insert dollar amounts here]" thing.

West coast bias!!!  In 60% of the country, DoND and MNF did not overlap.

Overall ratings for the slot in East Coast bias mode:
NBC (Deal): 8.1 overall/3.9 for 18-49s
CBS (King of Queens/Met Mother): 7.0 overall/3.4 for 18-49s
ABC (Wife Swap): 6.3 overall/no 18-49 data available
UPN (Chris/One on One): 2.8 overall/1.3 for 18-49s
FOX (Arrested): 2.6 overall/1.8 for 18-49s
WB (7th Heaven): 2.6 overall/1.1 for 18-49s

...which means that in 40% it did, which means that the show did not have a chance at a full national audience, especially as we are reaching the end of the final MNF season on ABC. I'm thinking that crappe game might have had a few extra viewers wanting to see the end of an era.

(And screw your West Coast bias :) So much of television coddles the East Coast anyhow. That whole "New York is the center of the universe, just ask them, they'll tell you" thing.)

Sorry, my sarcasm indicator was on the fritz.  Being a former resident of the Mountain Time Zone, I am well aware of chronological neglect and coastal boastiality.  However, my figures were also way off for the U.S.:

Eastern-47%, Central-33%, Mountain-5%, Pacific-14%, Other-1% (according to GoogleAnswers).

So, it should really be 20% who would have had a Mandel-Madden Mash-Up.  The MNF ratings last night were the lowest for the season (8.5 overall, 4.3 for A18-49 in the 9-11 ET range).

Is it even possible for it be successful after just one episode? First episode ratings are virtually useless (see XFL and Seinfeld, for example).

Agreed and agreed, I'll be more interested in the aggregate rating over the course of the week. But since only one episode has aired, we only have one set of numbers, so we might as well compare 'em. :)

It's interesting that the show is hugely successful around the world, but I can't think if a single country where it ever got blockbuster Millionaire-esque ratings. If that's the sort of thing NBC are expecting, they're probably going to be a little disappointed.

The Brit version gets 3mill upwards on a daily basis, but in a country of sixty million it's not a lot really. But it wins its early afternoon timeslot (when most people are still at work!) and it's trebled Channel 4's audience share for the slot. It's also given Countdown a bit of a boost up.

In most countries the audience grows as it progresses through word of mouth more than anything. It will be interesting to see the spin the US hype machine will have on the results.

I rather quickly did the probabilities and algebra to prove that taking what case you have into account doesn't impact your chances of improving your situation in Deal or No Deal, and yet I spend a good two minutes wondering how in the world people watching NBC at 8:00 PM Eastern can possibly help Keith Olbermann's ratings. Brains are a funny thing, sometimes.

They are, especially when Brig meant UK's Countdown game show, and not Olbermann's hour of power on MSNBC.

According to Marc Berman's Mediaweek column, Tuesday's Deal scored 8.2/13 in the overnights, 12.61 million viewers and a 4.6/14 among adults 18-49.  So... retention from the night before and gains in 18-49 (I would say from Earl's help) is a good shot in the arm for the net, whether you like the show or you don't.
