Statler:  That's a joke?  I have tons more jokes.

Waldorf:  There's not enough room in you for the jokes.

Statler:  Sure there is......up my ass!

(Both heartily laugh.......but then they both like corny jokes like this one.)

Don't make fun of the Statler. Without that chain of exclusive (overpriced) hotels, Paris Hilton might be shopping at The Gap!

And speaking of hotels, new years' eves, and game show hosts...for bonus points, what was the name of the hotel from which Ben Grauer traditionally broadcast his 3 decades of annual Times Square rooftop reports for NBC? For the jackpot, what was the name of Times Square before the New York Times newspaper moved to the site and changed its name? And for all the marbles, why are you sitting home tonight trying to answer these questions??!!

Answers on New Year's Day... a great 2006 to all.

"Brick" is more like it, and I'm not referring to the board award, either.

Can't answer the other questions, but Ben Grauer I think had his commentary position on the roof of the Astor Hotel. He did these spots on radio, by the way. On the monitorbeacon.com website now, there is a soundfile of the 1971 NBC Radio All-Star Parade of Bands broadcast from a KFI aircheck.....I'm sure you'll hear Ben doing his schtick there.

We have a winner! Grauer would do as much as a half-hour of continuous commentary that, even before there was live entertainment, made that Times Square mob scene seem like the original Woodstock. Amazingly energetic and memorable broadcasting that motivated me to make the trek when I was finally old enough. In reality, there were far more drunks, pick-pockets and people urinating in the street than Grauer ever mentioned!

A: Hotel Astor, Longacre Square

ObGameShow: Grauer later hosted an early TV quizzer entitled Ben Grauer's Americana Quiz.

Dick Clark’s was the ratings leader at the stroke of midnight.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC averaged 20.06 million viewers with a 7.1/25 among adults 18-49. That's a 25 share, the kind of numbers rarely seen since there were only 6 channels to watch on your rabbit-eared TV.

I can see the programmers at NBC discussing a plot line where Joey gets a stroke!!

Good gravy, I hope not.
But I do wonder if someone is in the process of penning a Dick Clark TV-movie detailing his stroke and struggle back.

Oh, grow up.

How is that even a disgusting line?

More importantly, WHY DID YOU NEED TO SAY ANYTHING?

When someone makes an unfortunate faux pas with their words, it's generally in better taste to NOT point it out.

On top of that, it's only a faux pas if some idiot makes a big deal out of it. I didn't even THINK of that until MusicNimrod said something.

Same here.

Pretty tasteless thing to comment on.
