Richard Hatch, it's your turn to play our exciting new game show, Clutching At Straws!
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

Meanwhile, slate.com says that the situation proposed by Hatch's lawyers could happen, but would mean that Mark Burnett or CBS could be paying taxes on taxes:

"Jurors deliberated for less than a day after more than a week of testimony."

See, sometimes the justice system works just fine, thank you very much.  I also like the part about the handcuffs and "flight risk".

The amazing thing through this whole, odd story is how incredibly clueless Hatch comes off, especially given his reputation for being oh-so-clever.  He HAD to know how much trouble he was in when they offered him a deal early on.   Instead of taking it, or even turning it down gracefully, he went on the offensive and just pissed them off.  All this despite knowing perfectly well that he didn't have a legal leg to stand on.  Insane.

While I agree, I don't find it surprising. Survivor has gotten some flak over the years for editing the show to portray the contestants as the characters they want them to be instead of who they are. They don't appear to have done that in Hatch's case; he's every bit the egotistical overbearing asshat he'd built his media image on. He'd spent the last year making bank hand over fist because he was Richard Freakin' Hatch, so it's little wonder he would think he was above the law and just be able to BS his way out the same way he has with everything else.

So do you suppose he's gonna pitch or catch? :)
