TPIR Game Prices...

Regarding TPIR games like Magic #, Easy as 1-2-3, Barker's Markers, Most Expensive, etc...

What has been the smallest price spread you have seen between prizes in games where a contestant has to guess a medium-priced prize(s) between the lowest prize and the highest prize?  What seems to be the average dollar spreads on such games?

For example, on "Magic #" the contestant usually has a few hundred dollars worth of breathing space between Prize A and Prize B to choose their "magic number".  If the producers are getting close to going over their prize budget, they can narrow the winning range between prices to make it harder for the win.  Conversely, they can set a game as an almost guaranteed win by having a spread of several thousand dollars between prizes.

Every time I've seen it, it's been more like a thousand-plus dollars.

Most Expensive has had the two cheaper prizes be very close in price on a couple of occasions, which spoils the win reveal for those paying close attention--the close prices can't be part of the win, or you'd risk an ugly loss for no good reason.

The closest the two prices have been is $773 apart occurring in season 33.  The farthest they have been from each other is $1,800 occurring this season.

Bob:  ...Now if that sofa is more than $3000, you win all three prizes.  And the price is... $2999.  Sorry, but maybe you'll win something on the Big Wheel.

I recall seeing a playing of Coming or Going recently in which the digit displayed was a 6. When toggled left, "coming", the price was something like $6485. When "going", toggled right, it would have read $5846, of course.

Given that it's common knowledge a prize is more likely to end in the digit 5, I still found this an incredibly small difference. These numbers are not the exact that were used that day, but there was still only a few hundred dollars difference in the choices.

1 Right Price has seen its share of close prices. ?Switch? has done well in spacing out the prices in nearly every playing I've seen.

In his defense, when one of Coming or Going's prices ends in 5, it will be right the vast majority of the time.

In Mark's defense, the only people who notice this are the ones who watch the show too much.

This is why one should watch the show and enjoy it for what it is. Not overanalyze every possibility/statistic for every game. Some of us just don't care.

Reminds me of the time I was waiting on line at Great Adventure. While waiting in the queue, someone was rambling off facts (how fast it goes, how tall it is, how many G forces it pulls) trying to be cool when in reality it made him look like an idiot.

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I don't believe you have either, but then we go back to the standard TPIR fanatic cry of "It's common knowledge!!!111!!!ONEELEVEN" that you guys keep defending, when in fact it's not.

I completely disagree.  I think it's way more reasonable to assume somebody will think, "gee, a lot of prices on this show seem to end in 5 and 0," than it is to assume somebody will think, "gee, having paint sealant and fabric protectant on cars seems to cause their prices to end in 2 or 7," since the first one basically involves watching the show a few times, whereas the second involves majorly overanalysing it.
